The Lone Star Geyser trail is a pretty hike which parallels the Firehole River to Lone Star Geyser. You can either meet us at the Lone Star Geyser hike trailhead, or we can pick you up in West Yellowstone. The price is the same. The trail is on an old service road, which these days is reserved for hikers and bikers. Cars are no longer permitted. A forest of lodgepole pine trees provides cover from the sun, and the sights and sounds of the river add to the beauty of the hike. Six geysers in Yellowstone have their eruption times predicted on a regular basis, and unfortunately Lone Star is not one of them. Eruptions occur about three hours apart. There may be a couple of smaller eruptions before the main eruption, which lasts about 20 to 30 minutes. This means that in a worst case scenario, if you want to watch Lone Star erupt, we may have to wait up to 2.5 hours. The Lone Star Geyser hike is about 4.4 miles (7.7 kilometres) long on a round trip basis, and is slightly downhill on the way there. Please take a look at the two videos we have of this hike. One is the Lone Star Geyser trail highlights hike, and the other is the complete Lone Star Geyser trail hike.
