Grand Prismatic Spring is one of Yellowstone's iconic sights and this guided hike takes you to a unique overlook of the pool from above. We can pick you up in West Yellowstone or you can meet us at the trailhead. The price is the same.
Your guide will lead you across a bridge over the Firehole River and into the Midway Geyser Basin, from where we should be able to see steam coming off Excelsior Geyser Crater and Grand Prismatic in the distance. We'll take a detour off the main trail, up a hill to an overlook of Grand Prismatic Spring. You'll have plenty of time to take pictures and admire the views before we head back.
The Grand Prismatic Spring overlook trail is about 1.2 miles (1.9 kilometres), and it gains about 105 feet (32 metres) over a distance of 0.6 miles (.97 kilometres) as we make our way up to the viewing platform.
Please take a look at the two videos we have of this hike. One shows just the highlights of the Grand Prismatic Spring overlook hike, while the other video details the entire Grand Prismatic Spring overlook trail.
