We can either pick you up in West Yellowstone, or you can meet us at the trailhead. The price is the same. We'll start the trail alongside the Yellowstone River, and as the south rim hike progresses, we'll climb a little, and the river plunges down over two waterfalls, so by the time we reach Artist Point, the Yellowstone River is in the canyon far below us. The Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone south rim trail starts by heading through a forest before coming to an overview of the Upper Yellowstone Falls. A little further down the trail we'll come to our first view of the Lower Yellowstone Falls. The trail alternates between going into the forest and following the rim of the canyon, with stunning views of the canyon and the Yellowstone River along the way. Artist Point, where some of the best views of the Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone are to be found, is the end of the trail. There are three ways we can get back to the start of the trail. Your guide can walk back along the road and pick up the vehicle while you enjoy more time at Artist Point. Alternatively, you can join your guide for the walk back by road. The third option is to retrace our steps on the trail, and do the hike in reverse. The trail is about 1.7 miles (2.8 kilometres) long. Please take a look at the two videos we have of this hike. One is the Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone south rim hike highlights, and the other is the complete Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone south rim trail.
